Summary
Lindberg explores how to create and implement surface design to promote self-expression and athleticism, using textiles. Her intended, primary audience is women. The artist's work is inspired by surface designers William Morris and Maija Isola, drawing from her own experiences with her physical environment. Lindberg studies the prevalence of technology and digital imaging in the production of textiles and wallpaper design. She ponders the place of traditional craft in the face of technological advancements in design. Lindberg's final project is a prototype of a hardshell jacket, showcasing the use of digital design glitches to distort, refigure and transform design. The artist brings the project through all stages of production, including budgeting, logistics and technical challenges. Lindberg explores the local, national and international surface apparel design community and realizes the barriers and challenges of being an independent, individual surface designer is a world dominated by apparel and design corporations
